Up to 90% of nursing home residents experience some form of hearing impairment, and nearly two-thirds of adults ages 65 and older are affected by moderate to severe periodontal disease. These common but often overlooked conditions can contribute to social isolation, which is associated with increased risks of mortality and dementia in older adults. Addressing hearing and oral health is therefore critical to supporting quality of life, social engagement, and overall well-being.
